Life of a Self-imposed Hermit
An automatic payment was scheduled for one of my credit cards over the weekend. I'd been told before that it's okay to pay a little more if I have it. Simply schedule the extra payment for no less than a few days before or after the scheduled post date for the automatic payment. So this month, I made an extra payment and scheduled it to post three days before the automatic payment. And it canceled the auto payment out. Ugh. I'm glad I checked over the weekend though. Had I looked again at that account *after* the due date, I would be in big trouble.
On top of the bajillion things I need to do and want to do before 2009 disappears, there are three other things I want to do, but I don't think I will be doing.
1 - Slackers Booze Cruise (I hate that phrase "booze cruise." It makes me think of kids sneaking alcohol for the first time and then pouring it all over themselves. Yes, strange imagery, but that's one of the things that always comes to mind.) on June 26 - I have been trying for the longest time to actually see them play a full set and not just one song before I have to dash to catch the T. This is my opportunity to do so. They have to finish playing by the time the ship docks and everyone has to get off. So I would get to hear more than one song live before walking off to catch my train. This is most excellent. Plus, it's on a boat cruising the harbor. I love being on boats cruising the harbor; I really do. An extra bonus.
Unfortunately the cost is $25 which might be inexpensive? or might not be, but since I'm not doing the yard sale/bake sale in June after all, I'll have an extra $25 that would've gone to getting a table. My thought is The Slackers might actually sell out since there are a limited number of people that can fit on the boat. So I'll have to decide soon. Then again, they might not come close to selling out at all. *shrugs*
2 - Dragon Con on Sep. 4 through 7 - I've never been to Dragon Con. I've never been to Atlanta or to anywhere farther south than New York (not including Bermuda and the Bahamas). And Ben and Claudia will be there. There are also a big selection of "tracks" to drop into, namely the writing and film ones. Dragon Con has their own film festival.
But it's at the end of August/beginning of September, a time notorious for eating up my money on family day trips & sabotaging the financial progress I've made through the first seven months of the year. I'm doubtful I will have the funds to go. And there is only one hotel left with con rate rooms.
3 - Farscape Creation Con on November 6-8 aka Third Final Frellin' Farewell: 10th Year Anniversary Celebration! - I've never been to California though I have been to three Farscape Creation Cons on the east coast. This is probably the biggest gathering of Scapers from all over the world. I promised myself if Creation had a con in 2009 (which they are), I would seriously consider going. And I am. Considering. Seriously. But November comes after August, the money devouring month. And I would have to fly there. And it's expensive, especially when compared to choices #1 and #2 above. But it's a joint Stargate/Farscape con which should mean the place will be packed. And Ben and Claudia will be there. And Creation has listed an opportunity to win lunch with Ben Browder. Isn't that every fan jirl's dream? It's certainly not to be herded from place to place and to be told you have a few seconds for chit chat before the flash goes off, and you are herded away again. To sit down quietly and chat .. sounds nice. Not that I would win, but still .. the opportunity is there.
